Strengthening fair trial standards in practice
The Asia Fair Trials Programme brings legal practitioners together across jurisdictions to strengthen fair trial standards in practice.
CLTC works with lawyers, civil society, and justice actors across Asia to close the gap between fair trial rights as guaranteed under ICCPR Article 14 and the reality experienced by defendants, witnesses, and communities.
This project is built on practitioner solidarity: the conviction that lawyers who are connected, supported, and learning from each other are better able to hold the line for their clients and for justice.
Peer-led and practitioner-owned
Quarterly Roundtables bring together lawyers from across jurisdictions for cross-jurisdictional learning, exploring how fair trial rights are challenged in different contexts, how practitioners have pushed back through their cases, and how community demand for fair justice can be built and sustained.
Learning Circles operate at the country level in smaller groups, conducted in national languages alongside English, with CLTC supporting national lawyers and key practitioners to co-lead.
This co-impact model ensures Learning Circles are locally rooted, professionally relevant, and sustained beyond CLTC’s direct involvement.
Practical resources such as tools, checklists, and practice tips are developed to be immediately useful in legal practice, grounded in the procedural guarantees of ICCPR Article 14.
